Can Satan hack into our thoughts like a cyberpirate hacks into a corporate network? That’s a frightening thought. But it’s true. Our adversary continually tries to tap into our brains and hack into our souls. The Bible calls him “the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”^a And today’s Scripture describes his access to the human soul. Those who don’t understand might scoff at this, but Christians know better. We understand the subtlety and power of this invisible invader. We may download antivirus software to protect our computers, but we have the Word of God and the Spirit of God to protect our thoughts and help us stand guard.

Put a barbed-wire fence around your thinking today. Learn to recognize every suggestion and every temptation of the enemy. The Bible reminds us that “the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”^b

Lord, keep me alert today—even in the midst of pressure, a full schedule, and unrelenting pain. As You have said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”^c Guard me against his attacks. Shield my thoughts and emotions from his lies and deceptions. Thank You for Your presence in the very center of my being!
