You Reap What You Sow

When the Houston Astros reached the play-offs in 2005, they decimated their farm system to build a team that would make it to the World Series that year. Unfortunately, the Astros lost four straight games to the Chicago White Sox in the series and didn’t bring home a championship. Soon after this World Series run, Astros owner Drayton McClane decided he wanted to sell the team.

As a result, the rebuilding process of the farm club really struggled until the new owner of the Astros, Jim Crane, got to work. With experienced front-office leadership, the team aggressively drafted, traded, and reestablished their foundation of quality pitchers and players to make a run over the long haul. Ten years after their World Series appearance, the Astros won the 2015 American League wild card game against the New York Yankees.

Proverbs 14:14 states, “Backsliders get what they deserve; good people receive their reward.” Just as the Astros lived for short-term success by sacrificing their future, we, too, reap the impact of our nearsighted decisions.

You see, our decisions today affect our tomorrow because mortgaging the future for fulfillment today comes at a high price. Whatever way you take, you can rest assured you will reap what you sow.
