Trust . . . Walk . . . Learn

Trust . . . Walk . . . Learn

Ropes courses are a trip. High-ropes courses are designed to get you up in the air on top of a telephone pole, harnessed and secured by a cable, doing things you would never do on your own to learn something about yourself and your team.

I remember the first time I did a high-ropes course. I thought I was going to fall to my death. I then thought that there was no way humanly possible I could walk from the top of one telephone pole to another a few feet away, twenty or more feet in the air. But once you step out on the rope and complete the station, you are amazed by your abilities, humbled by your team’s faith in you, and thankful for making it safely across.

Sometimes life puts us up high on a telephone pole with a large number of people surrounding us, looking up to see what we will do and how we will respond. Here, in this place, we must learn to trust, walk, and learn.

  • Trust the promises of Scripture. Proverbs 11:23 says, “The desire of the righteous ends only in good” (ESV).
  • Walk by faith. Hebrews 10:39 states, “But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls” (ESV).
  • Learn that God has a plan. Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps” (ESV).

When you trust, walk, and learn, you will be amazed by God’s abilities, humbled by his faith in you, and thankful for his protection in the midst of difficult circumstances.

The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.

Proverbs 16:9, ESV
