There’s A Reason He Got Cut
There’s a Reason He Got Cut
When Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallet missed a training camp practice in August 2015 after Brian Hoyer was named the starter, it was reported that he overslept. During the regular season, after being knocked out for one play, he attempted to return, but he was refused the opportunity and was benched. Just before halftime, with one second still on the clock, Mallett left the field, going to the locker room and leaving his team behind. His actions spoke volumes.
A few weeks later, Mallett missed the team charter flight to Miami. He had to book and catch his own flight to join the team. The word from the media was that Coach O’Brien wanted to cut him even before the game. General Manager Rick Smith refused to terminate Mallett, because that would have left the Texans with only one quarterback for that game. As injury prone as the Texans have been at the quarterback position, Smith’s wisdom prevailed, enabling Mallett to make one more game paycheck with the Texans. After the Texans suffered their worst defeat in team history, Mallett was cut and T. J. Yates was re-signed.
It was an unfortunate end to his time with the Texans, but as Proverbs 29:1 states, “Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery.” You don’t have to be in the NFL to know that if you are habitually late and undependable, the organization that you are working for will move on from you. If you struggle with this, get your act together; otherwise, others will be saying of you, “There’s a reason he got cut.”
Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery.
