The Multi-Generational All-Pro Dad

In a text conversation with my friend Darrin Gray, one of the leaders at All Pro Dad, I praised him for living out what he and his entire organization embody. You see, Darrin was taking his son Zach on a special trip for his thirteenth birthday. On that trip he was going to share with Zach some big ideas about being a man, being responsible, and being accountable.

When a boy reaches thirteen, something happens in his father’s heart. It is then that a father realizes his time with his children is short and it’s time to impart crucial life lessons. When I wrote the book Thirteen Going on Eighteen: Becoming a Man of Influence for my oldest son, Brady, I saw the clock ticking and knew that my time with him was limited. I always wanted him to have my words.

I haven’t met Darrin’s dad and don’t know his story, but I sent Darrin this text message before they departed: “Look at Proverbs 23:24 today. I trust your dad is happy today as you are cultivating wisdom in the life of your son. #Allprodad.”

Listen to the multigenerational impact of being an all-pro dad. Proverbs 23:24 states, “The father of godly children has cause for joy. What a pleasure to have children who are wise.” This verse doesn’t necessarily convey three generations rejoicing at the same time, but allow me to make an assumption for a minute. I assume that there is joy in the grandfather who sees his son being wise by seeking to pour wisdom and truth into his children.
