The Fantasy Of Speculation
The Fantasy of Speculation
Fantasy football has turned into a huge industry. From weeklong leagues to season-long rosters, the hopes and dreams of so many football fans rise and fall on the health and performance of their fantasy players. Entire television and radio shows are based on fantasy football analysts reviewing past performance and providing future speculation. The gaming industry has invested heavily into the fantasy sports industry, and the government is trying to discern how to regulate it. Millions of dollars are traded every week based on speculation.
How cool would it be if you knew exactly who to pick because of their performance and ability to stay healthy? Some of this was depicted by Marty McFly, Doc, and Biff in the movie Back to the Future Part II. When Marty and Doc visit October 21, 2015, Marty purchases a sports almanac. Biff steals it, returns to 1955, and gives it to his younger self, who bets on games based on this knowledge. When they return to 1985, the conclusion for Biff is clear—he was very successful.
I think the words fantasy and speculation describe the movie’s story line very well. But did you know that there is no need for speculation when we ask God for knowledge and wisdom? The next time you need knowledge, insight, and understanding, consider Proverbs 2:6: “The LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” I speculate that when you do, you, too, will be successful.
The LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:6
