Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano was criticized when in his first season with the team, he had his defensive players go all out on a play when the opposing team’s quarterback was taking a knee in the victory formation. When asked about it, Schiano defended his team’s actions, indicating he was trying to change a culture and he wanted his players playing all sixty minutes. He wanted them to see the game to the end.

You know, if we learn to look to the end of a matter, we might save ourselves a lot of pain. For instance, when we enter into an adulterous relationship, we aren’t looking to the end; we are only looking at what is right before us. We are so captivated by it that it actually blinds us.

As a result, we can’t see the pain we will cause our wives, the devastation we will bring to our children, and the tragedy that will come when our ways get exposed. If we would see to the end, we would envision these moments and the pain the affair would create, and we would steer far away from that mistake.

Proverbs 5:3-4 warns us against the adulterous woman. It states, “The lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil. But in the end she is as bitter as poison, as dangerous as a double-edged sword.” Solomon was showing his sons the end of adultery with words like poison and double-edged sword. My friend, do you need to change the culture of your heart? Learn to see things to the end by heeding the Word of the Lord.
