Staying Hydrated
Staying Hydrated
One of the most important foundations of athletic performance is hydration. If an athlete is not hydrated properly, his or her performance will suffer. Some college-level coaches go so far as to test their athletes’ urine to see if they are hydrating properly.
While on a jog, I noticed I wasn’t hydrated enough. I had been drinking too many diet sodas and not eating the best foods. I woke up that morning, had some coffee, did some writing, then set out on a forty-minute jog. I wasn’t too far into that jog when I knew I wasn’t hydrated enough. My body let me know.
Just as we need to stay hydrated in the physical realm, we need to be hydrated in the spiritual realm. Scripture calls us to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This isn’t some sort of out-of-body religious experience, but a simple request of the Lord to fill you up.
Ephesians 5:18 states, “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.” When I preach, I say, “Lord, fill me up so that you can pour me out.” But beyond preaching, I ask the Lord to fill me so that I can live each day sensitive to my reactions and the Spirit’s leading.
If we are going to live according to God’s Word, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit. Stay hydrated by asking the Lord to fill you, and strive to walk in his way.
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.
