Vince Lombardi, Hall of Fame coach of the Green Bay Packers, once said, “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength or a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.” Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll, who coached the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1969 to 1991, said, “Champions are champions not because they do extraordinary things, but because they do the ordinary things better than anyone else.”

When you stop and think about these quotes, it calls you to take care of your own efforts, lest you become one of the greatest barriers to your success. You see, successful people aren’t just given success, they earn it. They pay the fundamental price to be successful, whether that’s getting up early for a morning workout, working late to get the extra know-how for the pending project, or finding time to study just a little bit more for their exam. They do ordinary things better than everyone else, and thus, they get the reward.

To be successful, you have to have the right attitude and the right atmosphere that leads to taking the right actions. Proverbs 14:23 says, “Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!” As you work today, pay the price, go the extra mile, and give your best. Set aside momentary enjoyment for long-term fulfillment. When the profits come through knowledge or fitness, increased revenue or responsibilities, you will find a sense of pride for your accomplishment. Be excellent in your work, for even before the Fall and the sin that entered the world, God gave man the great responsibility to work.
