Get Up And Lay It Down

Get Up and Lay It Down

Legendary NBA coach Phil Jackson once said, “Like life, basketball is messy and unpredictable. It has its way with you, no matter how hard you try to control it.”

When moments or even seasons like this hit, they can overwhelm you and cause you to lose sleep. So when you are tossing and turning and replaying the difficulty that you are facing, get up and lay it down.

That’s right, get out of bed, get on your face, and ask God to hear your prayer. Tell him your worries, lay the problem at his feet, and thank him for hearing you. When you take your burdens to the Lord instead of tossing and turning all night, you will be able to find rest. So many people choose to drink or even medicate for sleep, but I am convinced we are far better off getting up and laying it down.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” So after you have gotten up and laid it down, go to bed and enjoy your rest. You will be amazed at how well you sleep.

Remember this promise from the apostle Peter today! First Peter 5:7 says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

1 Peter 5:7
