Disappointing Losses
Disappointing Losses
Baseball great Connie Mack once said, “You can’t win them all.” Mack knew that if he was going to be successful in baseball, he had to learn to deal with disappointment and loss. Losing stinks. Not getting what you want when you want it after working so hard to get it feels even worse. But losing is unavoidable. If you are going to be successful in life, you must develop a plan for handling disappointment.
Here are three tips to help you when you face the disappointment of losing:
- Keep fighting. Don’t quit on yourself, your family, or your team. Those who quit fail every time. If you keep fighting, the tide may turn.
- Learn all you can from your loss, and find ways to correct your course. This will help you prepare for the next opportunity to help your family, team, or company get a win. Learning from the disappointment of a loss is paramount if you are going to make progress personally and professionally.
- Stay ready by guarding your heart. In other words, keep discouragement at bay. Discouragement settles in as depression if you let it linger. Take your discouragement to the Lord, and put it on him.
Galatians 6:9 states, “Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Keep doing good, and prepare for the harvest. Giving up doesn’t produce a crop.
