Creating Moments

I’ve got to tip my hat to Tony and Heather Gray at Search Services in Houston. Tony and Heather are some of our closest friends, and I like them even more now because they included our family in an event they created for the release of the film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But Tony and Heather didn’t just invite us, they also invited all of their clients and their clients’ families. They rented out a movie theater for a 4:45 p.m. showing on a Monday at the start of the Christmas holiday, just after the movie had come out.

At the theater, Tony got to address the crowd and introduce the people to a charity that his company supports before the movie rolled. More than three hundred people showed up at this moment to watch the next movie in the Star Wars episodes. When I saw Tony and Heather after the movie, I thanked them and said, “Man, I wish I had thought of this. This was great.”

One of the things that good leaders do well is to create moments for others that encourage them, inspire them, communicate appreciation for them, and bless them. As you lead your family, are you creating moments that they will remember? What about your employees or clients? As you lead others, put them first, show them honor, and bestow blessings upon them. In Romans 12, I see two things that I want to leave with you today. Verses 6-8 state, “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. . . . If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”

Additionally, Romans 12:10 fits nicely with the first Scripture. It states, “Take delight in honoring each other.” I want to challenge you today to lead zealously and honor those in your midst and make some really cool moments together.
