Confusion Is The Answer - A Minute of Vision for Men
Confusion Is the Answer
There have been two distinct times in my life when a moment of confusion directed me to the answer for a significant decision. One was when our daughter, Carson, broke her elbow launching herself off the swing set. At one of her checkups, the doctor didn’t like how the X-ray looked. He thought she would need surgery to heal properly, and he wanted to send her for a CAT scan to double-check everything. When we arrived for the scan, we were told our insurance didn’t cover it and we would have to pay $1,200.
After getting up from the floor, giving the attendant my credit card, and waiting quite a while, I was asked, “Has she ever had X-rays?”
Impatiently I said, “Yeah, across the street thirty minutes ago.” He replied, “Well, if you don’t have them we will have to get some more.” At that moment my phone rang, the attendant came out to get my daughter for more X-rays and the CAT scan, and I wasn’t sure what to do. I felt pressure from the attendant, impatience from the lab assistant, and concern in my own heart from bearing the costs that my insurance should have carried. It was a chaotic moment for sure. Before the attendant could take my daughter in for the scan, my wife said, “Just cancel, and let’s regroup.” What wisdom! First Corinthians 14:33 states, “God is not a God of disorder but of peace.” Although I believed that the confusion was part of the answer, the confusion of the moment was actually redirecting us to say no.
God did not confuse us at that lab, but he did use the confusion to redirect us, lead us to peace, and protect our resources. A few days later, we saw a specialist, and not only did Carson not need surgery, but her entire course of treatment was redirected. When you don’t have a peace, look for the Lord to lead you to his peace another way.
God is not a God of disorder but of peace.
1 Corinthians 14:33
