A Good, Good Father
A Good, Good Father
There she was, sitting at the gate to the school yard, just a few feet away from her teacher, with tears dripping down her first-grader cheeks. Her eyes were red, and her nose had a sniffle. She was at an after-school pickup location that was different for her, because the instructions had changed. Her eyes looked through the crowd to see who would come, wondering if they would come, or if she had been forgotten. It was a tough way for this precious little girl to end her day.
Then her daddy came. As soon as he saw her, he asked the person he was talking to on his phone, “Can I call you back? My daughter is crying.” He got down on his knee as she stood up, and she ran to his arms. He immediately began to comfort her, to let her know he was just a minute behind and that he would never forget her and leave her alone. The words to Chris Tomlin’s song “Good Good Father” rang out in my mind when I saw this father get to his knee to comfort his little girl.
Whatever your earthly dad was like, the Bible reveals an incredible heavenly Father, who is perfect in all of his ways. Like this young daughter whose father reassured her, you are loved, not forgotten, not forsaken, and not alone.
First John 3:1 says, “See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!” I just want to remind you today that our heavenly Father is a good, good Father.
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!
1 John 3:1
