Can I Ask You A Favor?
Can I Ask You a Favor?
When was the last time you asked someone for a favor? Asking for a favor is asking for a special grace from someone else that will inconvenience that person but benefit you. Asking for a favor is akin to asking someone to take money out of his or her account knowing it may not be returned. No wonder it’s often difficult to ask!
Have you ever wondered if God could do you a favor? Many people fail to share their requests with God because they feel it may inconvenience him. They also know that they really can’t pay him back for answered prayers. If that is your approach to prayer, then you don’t truly understand God. He is not bound. Our Lord owns the cattle on a thousand hills (see Psalm 50:10). He can answer any prayer request. Many people think, I’ll pray for others, but I don’t want to bother God with these little things. That perspective views God as having limited funds to pay his bills instead of as the God who can do anything.
Listen to wisdom as she speaks in Proverbs 8:35: “Whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.” So let me ask you this question: Did you know that as you seek, find, and walk in God’s wisdom, he already favors you every day? Do you need a favor? Ask him.
Imagine your life being lived where God is daily doing favors (bestowing his divine blessing) for you through his gracious wisdom. He is not a genie in a bottle who will act as if your wish is his command, so that you can name it and claim it. But in walking with him and listening for his leading, you will find the gracious, profound blessings that only he can bestow. Seek his wisdom, and you will enjoy his favor.
Whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.
