Assisting The Valet

Assisting the Valet

We called for the car about twenty minutes before checking out of our hotel. It was the Christmas holidays, and the valet said it would be thirty minutes because there were about twenty cars in front of us. When we got to the hotel lobby at the appointed time, we waited alongside the rest of the guests who were in line. After fifteen minutes, I went to the valet stand to simply see where our vehicle was in the mix.

Jordan, the valet manager, called to see when our Ford Expedition would be brought down. He started asking questions, hung up, and proceeded to work with other guests. At this point I knew what my gut already believed—something was wrong. After a few more minutes, I inquired about our truck again. He called, but they didn’t have an answer for us.

Finally, I looked at Jordan and asked, “Well, is someone looking for my truck? If not, I will go and find it.” Jordan, a young college student who realized my patience had worn thin, looked at me and said, “Let’s go find it together.”

It took us some time to get to the garage, locate the vehicle, and find the keys, but Jordan thanked me for staying patient. I told him, “Jordan, I am trying to learn to not fret over things outside my control.”

Psalm 37:8 states, “Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm.” There was no point in getting angry about the situation. Anger would have only ruined the day we had at Sea World after finally finding our truck.

Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper—it only leads to harm.
