A Person Of Influence

A Person of Influence

So often we limit our scope of influence, and we do not realize that we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of everyone with whom we come in contact. We are all leaders, because someone is always looking up to us no matter who we are. People today are desperate for leadership. I believe every one of us has influence; we will use it either positively or negatively.

In his book The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge, former NFL coach Tony Dungy shares his experience growing up and visiting his uncles and aunts in Detroit. The impact they made in his young life through their leadership can be seen in Dungy’s accomplishments and character as an adult.a We need to broaden our vision and realize the influence that we can have on our extended family, friends, and coworkers—even the people we just pass throughout our day.

In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus says, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” We encounter so many people each and every day, and Jesus has called us to be a good influence on them. We need to be mindful of them, seek to serve them, and be a blessing to them. This is the way to cultivate our influence.
