A Christmas Surprise

A Christmas Surprise

Have you ever struggled to buy a gift for your wife? I remember, as a young married man, making my wife cry one Christmas. I didn’t realize just how bad I was at buying gifts until that moment. My experience reminds me of the man and woman who were still mad at each other from the previous Christmas. She was mad at him for the gift he got her. He was mad at her for being mad at him. When he got up the courage to ask her what she might want for Christmas, she said in her sarcastic tone, “Just surprise me.” So that year, at three in the morning, he leaned over and yelled, “BOO!”

Guys, let’s be honest. If you’re like me, you struggle buying the right gift for your significant other. What I have learned through the years is that good gift giving includes considering what, when, and how. That’s what to give, when to give it, and how to give it with a memorable, special delivery. Master what, when, and how, and you will go a long way toward putting a smile on your wife’s face.

This, by the way, is how God gave his Son. Galatians 4:4-5 states, “When the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.” Jesus is the perfect gift, who came at just the right time in a memorable delivery.
