God Is Inviting You To Rest - 5 Powerful Truths about Your Relationship with God

God Is Inviting You to Rest

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34, NIV)

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, NIV)

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NIV)

Rest is a high commodity, especially in our busy, ever-changing world. We’re constantly trying to keep up with the latest trends, news, or notifications. Our phones are always buzzing with updates, and the cycle of hustle and bustle never seems to stop. In the midst of this, God wants to give you rest.

Rest is not only something that we need; it’s something we were made to do. But in a world that values busyness and productivity, rest often gets pushed aside. Today, I want to ask you to reflect: when was the last time you consciously practiced resting in God?

You may be wondering, what does it mean to rest in God? Jesus gave us a clear example in Matthew 6 when He said, “Don’t worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will worry about itself.” To rest in God means to take a step back and trust Him with the things you’re worried about. It means to take about ten minutes of your day, sit down, and take inventory of your life; acknowledging what is currently weighing you down or bothering you and giving it to God. Worrying about something doesn’t change the outcome; it only robs you of your peace in the present moment.

Resting in God means trusting that you’ve placed your circumstances in the safest, most loving hands you could ever find. When you entrust your worries to God, you give those situations their best chance of turning out favorably. So, today, I encourage you to practice resting in God. It might not come naturally, but the more you practice, the more you’ll experience peace.

Make this a habit, not just today, but every week. Set aside time to release your worries and trust God with them. Let go of the things that are out of your control and find rest in the One who is in control of everything.

Reflect: When anxiety or worry rises up, take a moment to sit in stillness and give it all to God. Remember, worrying doesn’t change anything, it only robs you of today. Trust God with your circumstances and experience His peace that surpasses understanding.

Pray:

“Father, with everything vying for my attention and the endless to-do list before me, I pray that You would help me rest in You. When I take part in this exercise, help me to envision myself placing the worries that are out of my control in Your safe hands. Lord, help me discern what is mine to carry and what isn’t. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
