God Invites You To Ask Him For Wisdom - 5 Powerful Truths about Your Relationship with God

God Invites You to Ask Him for Wisdom

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5, NKJV)

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” (Psalm 32:8, NIV)

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:18, NIV)

When my husband and I first started our counseling practice, we quickly learned the importance of seeking God’s wisdom; not just for the big decisions, but also for the small ones. Over the years, we interviewed many people who looked great on paper, but once hired, we realized they didn’t match up in character. It was a tough lesson, but it taught us to rely on God’s wisdom, not just in the big decisions but also in the little things that could so easily be overlooked.

In life, there will be moments when you face decisions that seem urgent. You might want so badly to take that new job, start a relationship, or make a major change, but how do you know if it’s God’s will? This is where asking God for wisdom becomes essential. James 1:5 (NKJV) tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach.” God is generous in giving wisdom, but we must ask Him for it. He’s not going to withhold it or scold us for asking; instead, He delights in guiding us through life’s decisions.

God is the author of all wisdom. He knows the beginning from the end and can see things that we can’t. In His great love, He wants to direct our steps; whether we’re considering a job opportunity, navigating a difficult relationship, or making any decision that affects our future. Psalm 32:8 reminds us that God will guide us with His loving eye on us, teaching us the way we should go. His wisdom is not random; it’s purposeful, and it’s always rooted in His love for us.

There will be times when God says “no” or “wait,” and in those moments, it can be hard to understand. But rest assured, God’s wisdom will never lead you astray. He sees what we can’t. He knows the job might take us away from our family or the relationship may not be the best for us in the long run. Trust that His wisdom, though it may not make sense, far supersedes human wisdom.

When you ask for wisdom, don’t just expect an immediate answer. God can speak to you through His Word, through a sermon, or even through a conversation with a friend. The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, is with you to guide you into all truth (John 14:17-18). Keep your eyes open in the coming days for how God will reveal His wisdom to you.

When you’re facing decisions, take time to ask God for wisdom. Be specific about what you need to know and trust that He will guide you. Look for His answers through His Word, through prayer, and through the counsel of trusted friends.

Reflect: God invites you to seek His wisdom, and He promises to give it generously. No matter what situation you’re facing, you can trust that He will guide you. Keep your eyes open for His answers and rest in His loving direction.

Pray:

“Father, thank You for being the source of all wisdom. Thank You for the privilege of coming to You with my decisions and asking for Your guidance. Please lead me with Your loving eye, and help me to make choices that honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
