Day 2: Take The First Step

“Then God said to Abraham, “Regarding Sarai, your wife—her name will no longer be Sarai. From now on her name will be Sarah. And I will bless her and give you a son from her! Yes, I will bless her richly, and she will become the mother of many nations. Kings of nations will be among her descendants.”

We long to matter. We long for meaning. But how do we matter or find that meaning? As the adage goes, “You’ll never know unless you try.”

On the other side of a Trailblazer’s initiative lies a life of meaning, purpose, and legacy. An adventure of a lifetime! We have many examples in Scripture of individuals who could testify to this.

Genesis 17 is the perfect case study for this. At the ripe age of ninety-nine, Abram faces yet another fork in the road of his life. Twenty-four years after an initial blessing and covenant was given to him, Abram returns to God broken, bruised, and battered from trying to live life his own way.

God then reaffirms this covenant with Abraham, only this time, he asks Abraham to put a little skin in the game (I’m sorry, I had to). He tells Abraham that the physical sign of this covenant will be the procedure of circumcision, to serve as a constant reminder of the promise they both were committed to keeping.

It keeps getting better (and don’t worry, the gross part is over).

He tasked Abraham with becoming the father of God’s chosen people, who could come only through him and his wife, Sarah.

Maybe you feel as though the dream God has placed on your heart is too crazy. Perhaps you’ve tried to bargain with God or simply make the dream come true by your own strength. Maybe you’ve even tried to enter into an exchange agreement: “I’ll give you this, God, if you don’t make me do this.”

Whatever the case, what if God is gently asking you to stop and to fully surrender? To give up control? What if this is the moment when you decide you’ll be all in on blazing the trail God’s called you to?

You may be thinking, “It’s too late for me.”

Um, hello? Did you just read the same story I did? It really comes down to this: Do you trust that God is who he says he is?

Now, hang with me for a moment. Right now, you’re on the edge, thinking that you’re ready to jump into the abyss of the unknown to begin blazing the trail God’s called you to. While God probably has you in a season of preparation leading up to this moment, let me be the first to say:

GO FOR IT! I believe in you.

Will you jump?

Will you take the first step?

The life of a Trailblazer is a life of initiative. It’s time to say yes to the future that God has waiting for you.
