Self-control
self-control - I’m not a disciplined woman. How can I possibly learn self-control?
I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. . . . When I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. . . . Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 7:15, 21, 24-25
All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
1 Corinthians 9:25
Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance.
2 Peter 1:5-6
FAILURE to control ourselves inevitably results in broken hearts and damaged relationships. Self-control first involves knowing God’s guidelines for living as found in the Bible. We need to know what it is we must control before we can keep it under control. We can do this by (1) honestly assessing our weaknesses; (2) deciding that with God’s help, they will no longer rule us; (3) removing ourselves from places of temptation; (4) humbly confessing to God when we make a mistake; and (5) giving glory to God when we are victorious! Remember, it takes time to learn self-control. Becoming a disciplined woman happens through many small decisions that move us toward living God’s way.
