Religion
religion - Why does religion sometimes feel burdensome?
I hate all your show and pretense—the hypocrisy of your religious festivals and solemn assemblies. . . . Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living.
Amos 5:21, 24
The Lord says, “These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote.”
Isaiah 29:13
If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
James 1:26-27
Now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.
1 John 5:20
SOMETIMES FAITH gets reduced to a list of rules and religious obligations. Perhaps we do this to feel in control of our lives or because keeping the rules makes us feel “good enough.” When the focus of our faith is on rituals instead of relationship, religion feels empty. God longs for us to pursue a deep relationship with him. As our hearts connect with the one true God, our lives then overflow with love and acts of devotion to him. Talk to God and receive his grace as he invites you to exchange empty rules for a true relationship with him.
