reconciliation - Why it important to God that I’m at peace with others?

If you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.

Matthew 5:23-24

God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:19

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.

RECONCILIATION is at the heart of what it means to follow Jesus. Jesus suffered the agony of the Cross to redeem sinful human beings and reconcile them to a holy God. Our reconciliation with God is a picture of how we are to be reconciled with others. Harmony in human relationships is so important that Jesus even commands us to leave worship to reconcile with the people in our lives with whom we have conflict. It’s clear that unresolved conflict actually hinders our relationship with God. Is there anyone in your life with whom Jesus wants you to pursue reconciliation? If so, remember that even if he or she does not accept your attempts to reconcile, it will please God that you tried. It’s never easy to be the person who takes the high road, but God promises that if you do, you will experience his love, peace, and goodness in your life.
