Productivity
productivity - How can I let go of my desire to always “do” and instead just “be”?
He told them, “This is what the LORD commanded: Tomorrow will be a day of complete rest, a holy Sabbath day set apart for the LORD.”
Exodus 16:23
The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength.
Psalm 23:1-3
Be still, and know that I am God!
Psalm 46:10
IT CAN FEEL challenging and unnatural to force ourselves to stop accomplishing tasks and instead just be present in the moment. Perhaps this is because productivity makes us feel empowered and important; it gives us a sense of purpose. However, throughout the Bible, God encourages—and even commands—his people to have times of stillness and silence with him. Slowing down to spend intentional time with God helps us refocus, gain strength, and remember that God is the one in control. If setting aside your productivity feels hard, try incorporating rest throughout your day in small ways. Walk more slowly, take your time in a conversation you would typically rush through, do one task at a time rather than trying to juggle multiple things, or let go of items on your to-do list. When life gets too busy, ask God what you need to let go of in your schedule so that you can find time to stop and be still.
