Pride
pride - What is pride, and why is it so dangerous?
Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:9
Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.
Proverbs 16:18
Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.
Proverbs 12:15
Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Luke 18:14
THE MOST DANGEROUS sins are often those we cannot see. Pride, at its core, is the desire to live apart from God. It is convincing ourselves that, on any particular issue, we know better than he does. However, God’s Word assures us that he is perfect in goodness and all-loving toward his creation. His plans for us are good, and therefore he can be trusted with our future. Do you tend to be stubborn? Do you struggle to trust that God’s Word is true? Do you lack respect for his authority? How do you respond when God changes your plans? Do you respond in anger, saying, “Fine, have it your way,” or in humility, saying, “Lord, your will be done”? If you see signs of pride in your life, ask God to move your heart toward humility. Read God’s Word to grow in your knowledge of who he is and who you are in comparison. Learn to be teachable so that you don’t miss out on growing with God.
