Pressure

pressure - How can I best deal with the pressures of life?

Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!”

Luke 10:40-41

As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands.

Psalm 119:143

“This is not good!” Moses’ father-in-law exclaimed. “You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself.”

Exodus 18:17-18

THE PRESSURES of daily life can squeeze our perspectives inward, causing us to lose our ability to look beyond ourselves. Pressure makes us focus on the trivial and miss the significant. What can we do when we’re feeling pressure? First, we can begin our days by asking what is most important to God. God’s agenda for our days is often drastically different from our own. Second, we can open God’s Word, where we will find the secrets to peace. God’s Word shifts our perspective away from external pressures and onto him. Finally, we can allow others to help us with the load. God never intended us to handle the pressures of life alone, and accepting assistance from others will give them an opportunity to serve. When pressure weighs you down, shift your perspective on what’s most important, gain wisdom from God’s Word, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
