Possessions

possessions - How do I keep from being overly attached to my possessions?

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

Matthew 16:25

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.

Psalm 24:1

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.

Luke 12:31-32

MANY OF US don’t worship our actual possessions but rather what they give us. The things we own can make us feel secure, significant, or admired. However, money and wealth can be dangerously deceptive. When we become overly focused on our material possessions, they end up owning us instead of the other way around. However, our relationship with Jesus ought to change our relationship with our possessions, because everything we have is from God. If you feel like your heart has become overly focused on what belongs to you, one of the best things you can do is invest your money in the things of God. Your heart will follow your money, and you will start caring about the ministries or people you are contributing to. Ask God to help you view your possessions as he does, know what is really worth being concerned over, and invest your heart in what matters most.
