mystery - Why is it important that there are mysteries about God we’ll never fully understand?

Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.

Ecclesiastes 11:5

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

Truly, O God of Israel, our Savior, you work in mysterious ways.

WHEN WE CANNOT make sense of something, it often makes us uncomfortable and distrusting. Therefore, when God acts in mysterious ways, naturally it challenges our faith. However, would we really want to have a God we knew everything about? If humans could completely understand God’s nature and knowledge, we would cease to be in awe of him. God’s mysteries are opportunities for faith. God has given you all you need to know in order to believe in him. If you pursue learning what he has already revealed about himself, you will discover him in new and exciting ways. God’s ways are higher than ours and greater than we could ever understand, which makes following him a lifelong adventure of discovery.
