hospitality - How can I practice hospitality when I don’t have much to share with others?

Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

SOME OF US avoid hospitality because our home or cooking feels inadequate. Others may find it too difficult to share time, space, and resources. But beautiful decorations and gourmet meals have very little to do with hospitality. Hospitality is about cultivating a safe space for others to experience the welcoming presence of God. And God promises many blessings to those who show hospitality. Don’t be distracted with making the perfect meal or having a spotless house. Just share what you have generously, set aside your insecurities, and enjoy the people you are with. It is your presence, not your presentation, that makes others feel welcome.
