Complacency

complacency - How can I overcome my complacency?

I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

Revelation 3:15-16

Simpletons turn away from me—to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency.

Proverbs 1:32

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.

1 Peter 5:8-9

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

COMPLACENCY is not motionlessness. It is choosing to be self-satisfied and unaware, which actually moves us away from God. We need to remain active and alert in our faith, and realize there is a battle going on over our souls. The enemy would like nothing better than to sway us in moments of indecision. Make a choice to move toward God today even if the movement feels insignificant. Read his Word, talk with him about your day, or simply remind yourself that he is with you. Do not simply try to avoid doing wrong; be proactive in doing what is right. Most importantly, be passionate about your relationship with God. Ask him to give you an eternal perspective so you can be wise with the one life you have been given.
