celebration - Why is it important to celebrate?

On this day in early spring, in the month of Abib, you have been set free. You must celebrate this event. . . . You must explain to your children, “I am celebrating what the LORD did for me when I left Egypt.”

Let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy.

WE CELEBRATE anniversaries, birthdays, victories, promotions, marriages, and new babies. We also celebrate occasions such as the Lord’s Supper and baptism. The ultimate reason to celebrate is that God has rescued us from the consequences of sin and shown us the wonders of eternity. Celebration is a powerful tool to take our focus off our troubles and put it on God’s blessings—and ultimately on God himself. Those who love him truly have the most to rejoice about! If you don’t feel much joy in life right now, ask God to awaken you to the things worth celebrating in daily life. These enjoyable experiences are a tiny taste of the joyous moments you will experience in eternity.
