A Prayer Of Responsibility

A prayer of Responsibility

When I need to take more responsibility for my actions

Dear God,

I’ve always been taught that a bad habit is something I impose on myself, like smoking, drinking, or taking drugs. But you’re beginning to show me that things like spreading gossip, complaining, backbiting, and even worry are bad habits too. One of Satan’s great lies is that I am a victim who has no power to resist my impulses and therefore I don’t have to take responsibility for my choices and actions. But in reality, everything I do is the result of a choice I make—and I am responsible for every choice. It’s hard to resist every temptation and always make good choices. O God, please break the chains that hold me and give me self-control. Your Word promises that you are more powerful than anything that controls me. Please give me the boldness to take responsibility for that first step away from my bad habits, and please be with me every step of the way through the power of your Holy Spirit.

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Romans 6:16
