A prayer of Forgiveness

When I need to forgive someone

Dear Jesus,

Your example demonstrates that forgiveness is the pathway to freedom in relationships. But like salvation, forgiveness is both a decision and a process. Someone has hurt me, and while I’ve decided to forgive him, it will be a long time before we freely trust one another. Jesus, you’re teaching me that sometimes I must decide to forgive even before I have feelings of mercy. It’s a decision based on your command to forgive others. While it’s difficult, I know that when I forgive someone who has wronged me, I am freed from bitterness and resentment. Lord Jesus, I need help to release the hurt inflicted on me. I want to let it go so I will be healed and free to grow beyond the pain. When I think of all that you have forgiven me and the freedom it has brought me, with your help I can certainly forgive this person who has hurt me.

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. Matthew 6:14
