A Prayer Of Brokenness
A prayer of Brokenness
When I am broken
O merciful God,
I am broken. I have fallen into sin, and now I fall to my knees before you. I am not going to run from you; no, I am staying right here at your feet, for I desperately need your mercy. I am reminded that King David committed adultery with Bathsheba and then had her husband murdered—it doesn’t get much worse than that! Yet when he was confronted with his sin, David didn’t run from you. He didn’t make excuses for his failure, nor did he give up in despair. Instead, he acknowledged your justice and cast himself on your mercy. Now I am doing the same. I confess my sin to you and acknowledge my full dependence upon you. I cast myself on your mercy and ask you to rescue and restore me. I know the way back will be long and hard, but I also know that my redemption will be a victory for you. May your power shine through my weakness so that you, O God, will be praised.
Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. Psalm 51:1-3
