A prayer for Joy

When I seek lasting joy despite life’s ups and downs

Dear God,

You created me to have feelings, so I shouldn’t be surprised when I experience emotional or spiritual highs and lows. However, I know that lasting joy and contentment run much deeper than momentary emotions. Lasting joy is like a strong current that runs deep beneath the stormy surface of my feelings. It is sharing with others the blessings of your presence. Joy is the sense of security that comes only from being held by you, an almighty God. It is the peace of knowing that you accept me and want me to be with you forever in eternity. It is the quiet confidence I experience when I let you guide me at all times and in all things, knowing that wherever you guide me is in my best interests. No emotional ups and downs can shake that kind of strong foundation. I praise you because in you I have found the source of true and lasting joy.

Let the godly rejoice. Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy. Psalm 68:3
