A prayer for Happiness

When I am looking for happiness

God,

Happiness comes from obeying your Word, which you gave with our best interests in mind. There was a time in my life when I ignored your Word and ran from you. I brought much unhappiness on myself by making destructive choices. It is so easy to buy into Satan’s lies, thinking we have found happiness. The lies manifest themselves in so many ways: Someone craving love may choose sexual intimacy without commitment, which leads to pain and emotional scars. Someone else may believe that wealth is so important it’s worth using dishonest means to acquire it. These graspings for happiness never last. But you have shown me that true happiness is cultivated by following the principles you designed for our long-term well-being. Why did I avoid your ways for so long when you graciously provide positive, healthful life principles through your Word? It is by doing what is right that I can enjoy life without fear of how it will turn out. Thank you for showing me that ultimate happiness lies in being at peace with you.

Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts. They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths. Psalm 119:1-3
