A prayer for Endurance

When I feel like giving up

Dear Jesus,

Please grant me the endurance to finish well. I need your endurance to complete life’s journey. When I get to the end, I’d love to have left a good reputation others can follow and a legacy of godly living. But the greatest reward for finishing well is the prize of eternal life with you. You have given this reward to all who have faith in you and who endure the challenges of the Christian life—persecution, ridicule, and temptation. Lord Jesus, please show me how to train myself so I can build up endurance for living a life of faith and staying strong to the end. May I not collapse during the race but find the strength to push on toward the goal of becoming more and more like you. Then, when I finally cross the finish line into your very presence, may I thank you for all the eternal rewards you have promised.

Since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Hebrews 12:1-2
