A prayer for Assertiveness

When I need the courage to speak truth

Lord Jesus,

I am amazed at how assertive you often were when you spoke to the Pharisees. You stood up for what is right. May I have the courage to follow your example! Help me discern the difference between boldly speaking out for what is good, and bullying others into my way of thinking. Sometimes I am tempted to look the other way when others are making unethical choices or are behaving in offensive, inappropriate ways. I want to stand up for goodness and truth, while having the grace to confront lovingly. May my boldness be tempered with love, and may my convictions be reserved for upholding truth and justice, not for pursuing a personal agenda. The more I study your life, Lord Jesus, the better I will be at this.

I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. Titus 3:8
