A Prayer About Warnings
A prayer about Warnings
When some of the Bible’s rules frustrate me
O God,
When you warn me about something, please help me to be grateful and not resentful. I’m grateful for red lights at intersections warning me to stop. I’m grateful for a poison label warning me to keep a bottle of cleanser out of my children’s reach. I’m grateful for an ambulance siren warning me to get out of the way. Lord, I know these kinds of warnings are good for me. Please help me to keep the right perspective about your warnings too. When the Bible tells me to watch out for certain things that could hurt me, help me to listen! I don’t want to view your warnings as intrusions that prevent me from enjoying life, but rather as blessings that protect me so I can enjoy life more. Your guidelines will save me from the consequences of foolish actions. Your warning to avoid sexual immorality, for example, prevents me from the tragedy of a broken heart or the regret of betrayal. O Lord, help me not to rebel against the very things that are designed to protect me. Let me see your warnings as merciful acts that allow me to enjoy real joy and freedom.
The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. Psalm 19:9-11
