A Prayer About Hard-heartedness
A prayer about Hard-heartedness
When I worry that my heart is becoming hard and stubborn
Dear Lord,
Please don’t let my heart become hard. Please show me how to evaluate the condition of my heart constantly so it remains a place where you want to reside. Is my heart becoming more hard and stubborn or more compassionate and merciful? Would others say, “There goes someone with the heart of Jesus”? I want a heart that is open to your counsel, that humbly accepts criticism, and that boldly rejects the tempting offers to sin. May I not find it difficult to forgive others. May I not find it difficult to see you at work in my daily life. When these things happen, then I fear my heart may be hardening. And that is my greatest fear, for a hard heart cuts me off from receiving your grace and forgiveness. A hard heart rejects your love, which is the only thing that can save it. Please, O Lord, keep my heart right with you.
I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. Ezekiel 36:26
