A Prayer About Emotion
A prayer about Emotion
When I want to express my emotions in a godly way
My God and my creator,
How amazing that you would gift me with emotions! They are evidence that I am made in your image, for the Bible shows you displaying the whole range of emotions from anger to zeal. My feelings allow me to drink deeply of the wonderful blessings you have given me, to feel sorrow over sin, and to empathize with others who need comfort. But they can also be easily hijacked by my wayward heart. So often I’m caught in a tug-of-war between my sinful desires and my desire for holiness. When my desires oppose one another, the same emotion can have two outlets—one good and the other bad. Lord, you created emotions, so you can teach me how to reclaim my feelings to be used for righteous ends. Please help me to control my desires and to channel my emotions into holy expressions.
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:19-23
