A Prayer About Depression
A prayer about Depression
Where is God in my darkness?
Merciful God,
I know depression because I’ve been there. It can descend slowly and hang in the air like an all-day rain. It can overwhelm like an avalanche of darkness. It can be the result of a specific experience of failure or loss, or it can invade the mind for no discernible reason. O God, thank you that there is nowhere I can go where you aren’t waiting. No matter how low I get, you are always present with me. Even if I don’t feel your presence, you have not abandoned me. Lord, I realize that sometimes you surround me with darkness so I can know the brightness of your light. The next time depression darkens my days, help me cling to the hope that I have in the light of Christ within me.
You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness. Psalm 18:28
