A Prayer About Children
A prayer about Children
When I want to teach my children about God
Heavenly Father,
I want to teach my children about you, but I need your help. I’m so tired most of the time that I fear I miss out on teachable moments. O Lord, please supply me with the energy to respond to my children’s natural curiosity about you. When my child asks about a tree or a caterpillar, help me to explain how any creation is a gift from you. You commanded the Israelites to set up a memorial that would attract children’s curiosity and create teaching moments for the Israelite parents. Please show me how I can start conversations about you with my children by setting up reminders of you in my home. May these reminders give me chances to share the great things you have done. Don’t let me miss these most important opportunities! The next time my child asks me to tell a story, bring to my mind a story from the Bible or from my own spiritual journey. I want my children to know that you are real and loving and enjoy being a part of their lives.
[Moses said,] “Commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 11:18-19
