A prayer about Authenticity

When I wonder if my faith is real

Lord,

If I want my faith to be truly genuine, I must ask the difficult question, “How pure are my motives?” Do I confess my sin because I’ve been caught, or because I am truly ashamed of what I’ve done? Are my good deeds because I want others to think well of me, or because I have genuine compassion for the needy? Lord, purify my heart.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Psalm 139:23
