A Prayer About Anger
A prayer about Anger
When I let my anger get the better of me
O Lord,
Why do I get so angry at times? It scares me sometimes because in just one moment my anger can take control of me. And most of the time, if I’m honest, it is not justified. My anger is often a bad reaction to my stubborn pride. When I am confronted because I did something wrong, I get angry. When I feel rejected, my anger button gets pushed. When I’m ignored, when I don’t get my way, when I know I’ve let you down—there it goes again, rising up like a hot fire within me. O God, the next time anger begins to ignite within me, please help me to stop and ask, “What am I trying to protect, my pride or your honor? Am I acting out of humility or revenge?” The next time I wrong someone in my anger, help me to confess my sinful reaction. The next time I am angry, help me to forgive the one against whom I rage. The next time I am angry, help me to reconcile rather than recoil. I need your help to change, Lord. Only when your love transforms me will anger be bested.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32
