A prayer about Worship

When I wonder why it’s difficult to worship

O Lord,

You are worthy of all my worship—my extravagant devotion. I want to acknowledge your power and glory; I want to experience your presence through the Holy Spirit. Yet sometimes it is difficult for me to humble myself in worship. In so much of my life I’m used to being in charge, but genuine worship calls me to submit myself to you. I’m used to glossing over my shortcomings, but true worship calls me to recognize and confess my sinfulness. Teach me, Lord, that only through humble praise and adoration will I begin to recognize who you are, and who I am in comparison. May my heart be filled with gratitude when I realize how you have lifted me up through your grace and forgiveness. Whenever I see your wisdom, power, direction, care, and love in my life, may I respond with praise. Then worship will become second nature to me.

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways! For who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice? And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back? For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. Romans 11:33-36
