A Prayer About Simplicity

A prayer about Simplicity

When I want to simplify my life

Father,

How I desire a simpler life! Material things so quickly ensnare me, and I feel trapped. I need to pursue simplicity not just as a lifestyle but as a tangible expression of my heart. Help me, Lord, to develop the right attitudes. May I develop thankfulness, viewing every possession and good occurrence as a gift from you. Then I will expect nothing and find delight in everything. May I trust that my life and everything about it is ultimately under your care, not my own. Then I will be freed from anxiety and worry. And may I increase my generosity, being willing to share what I have with others. Teach me to hold things loosely, sharing my time and possessions as an expression of your generosity toward me. When I do this, I know you can free me from the slavery of materialism to live a life of simplicity, focused on you.

Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing.” Luke 12:22-23
