A prayer about Service

When I wonder what attitudes are necessary for serving God

Lord God,

With my whole heart, I want to serve you. As I do, fill me with joy and reverent awe because then I will remember whom I am serving. Grant me a strong desire to please you and obey your Word because that will give me the motivation to do my best. May I always be devoted to you, even willing to sacrifice some of my own comforts and desires in order to effectively reach out to those who need you. Fill my heart with genuine love for you, and may it spill over to others, enabling me to serve them. I know that if I’m focused primarily on my own desires, I won’t be effective at helping others. Please work in my heart, Lord, so that I may have sincere love, genuine selflessness, and the self-discipline to put others first.

You have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13
