A Prayer About Sacrifice

A prayer about Sacrifice

When I think about what God has sacrificed for me

Almighty God,

When I sacrifice something, I give it up to obtain something of greater value. I might be willing to hold off buying a new car to save money for my child’s education, or to give up my time to help someone else. But I’m awed when I consider what you were willing to sacrifice for me. I don’t always take sin as seriously as I should, but your Word tells me that sin brings eternal death because it separates people from you. In Old Testament days, you provided animal sacrifice as a way to remove their sins so they could be holy in your eyes. But when Jesus died on the cross, he transferred all my sins onto himself. His sacrifice was perfect; another will never be needed. I praise you, Lord, for sacrificing your Son to make atonement for my sin. I recognize my wrongdoing and accept your gift of forgiveness. And whenever I give up something for you or another person, may I be reminded of your great sacrifice for me.

Just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, so also Christ died once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, not to deal with our sins, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him. Hebrews 9:27-28
